Essiac and disease have a long history. Essiac tea has been used for thousands of years to help people recover from disease and illness more quickly. Essiac tea first became popular as a cancer treatment in Canada. The eight herbs that make up essiac help the body eliminate toxins, and by doing that they build up the body's immune system.
The body's first line of defense is the organs. When the organs are not functioning properly, the body tends to fall into a state of ill health. Two crucial organs for the body's defense are the liver and the intestines. Both are targeted by the use of essiac.
The liver. Essiac helps purify the liver. This enables the liver to do it's important functions at top capacity. The liver detoxifies chemicals and helps metabolize any drugs or alcohol that are consumed. The liver makes bile that helps functioning in the intestines. The liver also makes proteins that are particularly important for blood clotting. The liver is one of the first organs to focus on when trying to improve health.
The intestines. Essiac helps clean out the intestines. The intestines are a long continuous tube that runs from the stomach to the anus. Most of the absorption of nutrients from food and also the absorption of water occurs in the intestines. Normally the body does a good job of keeping the intestines clear so that they can do the job they are designed to do. However, during periods of stress or poor diet (in particular, lack of fiber or water) the intestines can develop "sludge" that interferes with the ideal function.

People with the health concerns listed below may find essiac beneficial. This is not due to the fact that essiac cures disease. Rather, essiac can help rally the body's troops, so-to-speak, so that the body is better able to fight disease on it's own. In this way, essiac and disease really can go hand in hand.
1. Internal or External Cancer
2. Tumor Growth (benign or malignant)
3. Chronic Pain
6. Kidney and Bladder problems
8. Liver Problems
9. Colon Trouble
10. Sinus Trouble
12. Pneumonia and Chest Colds.
13. High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol
14. Diarrhea and Constipation
Please note: Essiac tea is not FDA approved and therefore is not proven to be effective in treating the above conditions. Essiac and disease have not been extensively studied and essiac is not a proven treatment. If you are suffering from disease or ill health, you certainly may give essiac a try, but please be aware it is not FDA approved in the treatment of disease or illness.
