Many people wonder about the essiac side effects they may experience. Luckily, the side effects from essiac are minimal and generally well tolerated. This is because essiac tea is designed to be a slow, gentle detox rather than a quick fix.
The only essiac side effect that has been substantiated is an increased frequency of needing to use the restroom. This should not be uncomfortable and should not interfere with your usual daily activities. This essiac side effect is really not a side effect at all, but rather it's a desired effect. That's because the tea is designed to help your body purge what is no longer needed so that your organs can regain optimal health and function.
If needing to use the bathroom more frequently is bothersome to you, you may choose to take less than the usual 3 oz. serving at a time. You may also start with fewer than 3 servings per day. You can always build up from there.
Keep in mind, however, that you shouldn't count your start date of essiac until you have built up to the usual dose. That usual dose is 3 oz. three times per day if you wish to improve your health and it's 3 oz. twice per day if you wish to maintain already good health.
You may be reading about essiac side effects from four herb formulas. Keep in mind that the four herb blend is an outdated formula and has different effects than the newer and improved eight herb tea. Rene Caisse performed research alongside Dr. Charles Brusch at the Brusch Medical Research Center in Cambridge MA. They found that the eight herb formula not only performed better, but also helped mitigate some of the side effects present with the four herb formula. You can read more about that research here or in the book The Essiac Report by Richard Thomas. Here is an online document of the book The Essiac Report, or you can purchase it on Amazon.
We can't speak to the experience every single person will have when they try something new. However, know that we have been working with this tea for over 30 years. It's exceedingly rare for any other side effects to be reported.
Oftentimes what is happening is someone guesses that what they are dealing with is a side effect from essiac, but it turns out what they noticed was a coincidence. That said, in very rare cases we have heard folks mention that they felt nautious when taking this tea. In that case, adding stevia or unsweetened fruit or vegetable juice usually helps.
The good news is that essiac has been found to help reduce side effects from chemo and radiation. In fact, many of our customers who have had radiation or chemo in the past indicate that the second go-around they fared so much better due to the tea. The best part is that the essiac doesn't interfere with the results or effectiveness of those treatments.
Since most pets have shorter digestive tracts than people and they tend to be lighter, the amount of essiac tea given to them is less. We have a chart on this page to help you know how much essiac to give to your pet. We haven't seen or heard side effects in pets as long as you stick to the schedule listed for serving sizes and frequency of taking the tea. The only problems come when giving too much.
Essiac tea takes just 10 minutes to prepare once every two weeks. It costs less than 75 cents per day to use.
